Ingredients:
Sauce & Toppings
- 1 pound of ground beef
- 1 bell pepper
- 1 tablespoon dry chopped onion (you can use fresh)
- garlic powder to taste
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 4oz mozzarella cheese (buy a block and slice)
- 1 can of diced tomatoes
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups of roa's marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
Cheese layer
- 4oz cream cheese - softened
- 2 eggs
- garlic powder and Italian seasoning to taste
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
- 1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella
- Heat oven to 350 degrees
- Beat the cream cheese and eggs together, add in garlic powder and Italian seasoning and 1/4 cup parmesan
- Fold in mozzarella
- Place on baking sheet with parchment paper and make a rectangle - big enough for two layers in an 8x8 dish
- Bake for 20 or so minutes - until golden brown
- Cook ground beef
- Once beef is fully cooked, add bell pepper, and onion
- Stir in diced tomatoes and roa's sauce
- Add any extra seasonings to taste - e.g. crushed red pepper flakes, garlic, etc.
- Place 1/3 of the sauce on the bottom of the 8x8 dish
- Place 1/2 of the baked cheese layer on top
- Add 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese, and 2oz of the mozzarella on top
- Layer with 1/3 sauce mixture
- Add remaining baked cheese layer
- Add remaining 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese and 2oz of mozzarella
- Add the remaining 1/3 sauce mixture
- Place 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella on top
- Bake at 350 for 25-35 minutes, until cheese is golden brown
